Southern Pines United Methodist Church
Southern Pines, NC
The new Sanctuary is designed to complement the existing campus and is constructed with similar brick, roof slopes and shapes. The seating for 560 is arranged in a communal style placing each parishioner near the chancel and communion table, as well as enhancing visual contact among worshippers.
The sanctuary interior has a warm ambiance from the exposed wood roof decking, red oak chancel flooring, and stained glass. The chancel and choir areas provide space for a choir of 60, pipe organ, grand piano, and handbells.
The former sanctuary is renovated to become a new Fellowship Hall. The new sanctuary narthex serves as gathering space connecting the new worship and fellowship spaces.
The steeply sloping site provided the opportunity for a lower floor which houses youth educational space, choir practice, and a small chapel.
